Keyboard Shortcuts

This page lists every keyboard shortcut available in Virtual.ink.

Shortcuts are grouped by where they apply. Shortcuts marked as configurable can be remapped from the Button Mapping page.

Live View Shortcuts

These shortcuts are active when you are on the Live tab and keyboard input is enabled.

All of these are configurable. The keys listed below are the factory defaults.

Key Action
B Start or stop recording
S Toggle painting on or off
Space Reset the light painting
H Hide or show the live controls
Tab Toggle fullscreen
Insert or Print Screen Save a snapshot

Additional default bindings for the same actions:

Key Action
Page Down, Arrow Right, Arrow Down, Media Play/Pause Start or stop recording
Page Up, Arrow Left, Arrow Up, Browser Back Reset the light painting
Enter Toggle painting on or off

These are user-remappable from the Button Mapping page. All keys can also be mapped from a clicker or gamepad.

Global Shortcuts

These shortcuts work on any page and cannot be remapped.

Key Action
D Toggle the debug info overlay
Ctrl+Shift+O Open the current surface in an external browser when it has a web route and web pages are allowed

Ctrl+Shift+O only works when the active surface actually has a browser route. On Starter it has no effect because web pages are disabled. On Basic it opens localhost, and on Pro or Pulse it can use the local-network address.

Dashboard Shortcuts

These shortcuts work when the Dashboard is active.

Key Action
Ctrl+, Open or close dashboard preset settings
Escape Close dashboard settings when open

Quick Nav Shortcuts

These shortcuts use the currently active Quick Nav preset.

Quick Nav shortcuts are ignored while focus is inside an input, textarea, select, or other editable field.

Library Shortcuts

These shortcuts are active on the Library page.

Key Action
Ctrl+, Open or close Library settings
Escape Close the transfer dialog, then the bulk action menu, then exit selection mode

These shortcuts are active on the Quickview page and when Quickview is embedded in the dashboard.

Key Action
Left Arrow Go to the previous dataset
Right Arrow Go to the next dataset
Ctrl+, Open or close settings (standalone page only)
Escape Close settings, then return to the previous page

Player Shortcuts

These shortcuts are active on the Player page.

Key Action
Left Arrow Go to the previous item in the playable list
Right Arrow Go to the next item in the playable list
Ctrl+, Open or close Player settings
Escape Close settings, then return to the previous page

Frames Shortcuts

These shortcuts are active on the Frames page and when Frames is embedded in the dashboard.

Right Arrow Go to the next dataset
Ctrl+, Open or close settings (standalone page only)
Escape Close the settings panel

Live Setup Shortcuts

These shortcuts are active when the Live Setup page or sidebar is open.

Notes On Configurable Shortcuts

The factory defaults for Live view actions are a starting point. In practice, photographers and photobooth operators often remap the record action to a wireless clicker button for hands-free operation.

The Button Mapping page lets you:

  • assign any physical key, clicker key, or gamepad button to any live action
  • create and name multiple mapping presets for different devices or venues
  • test inputs live before using them in production

Additional notes:

  • the configurable action set is record, reset, toggle painting, snapshot, hide controls, and fullscreen
  • the same actions can be mapped to supported gamepad buttons, not only keyboard keys
  • F5 is reserved and is not stored as a custom live-input mapping
